This program provides an educational introduction to Machine Learning, starting from the basic prerequisite knowledge. The main goal of the program is to equip the learner with a solid foundation and a strong toolset for their professional development. The first part of the program includes acquiring basic skills such as computer programming and data preprocessing. The tools used to build these skills is Python and its scientific ecosystem. Additionally, a solid mathematical background is also essential as it forms the basis for all Machine Learning Algorithms. In the second part of the program, the trainees become familiar with two fundamental axes of the field: Supervised Learning and Unsupervised Learning. The course contains heavily interactive online lab sessions, as well as regular programming assignments.
Target group
Graduates of Departments of Mathematics, Science or Engineering.
Participation fees
500 € (two installments 1st: 250€ 30/09/2025 – 22/10/2025, 2nd: 250€ 1-15/12/2025).

This online seminar is aimed at Science and Engineering graduates. Its duration is 8 months and consists of four units:
1. Python Programming
2. Python & Data
3. Supervised Learning
4. Unsupervised Learning
The flow of the educational process consists of asynchronous study spanning over two weeks approximately, followed by a three-hour remote synchronous workshop (via Zoom). The workshops have strong interaction with active participation of all trainees. The attendance of the trainees in the workshops is mandatory.
The first introductory meeting will be held on Thursday 2st, October 2025, at 7 pm.
At the end of each unit, a mandatory programming assignment will be submitted.

D. Kalopsikakis
Dimitris Kalopsikakis is Lab Teaching Staff in the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at the University of Crete. He has studied Computer Science (Bachelor’s degree 1997, MSc 2000) and Pure Mathematics (Bachelor’s degree 2016, MSc 2020) at the University of Crete. In the past, he has worked as a Systems Software Developer in the private sector (Forthnet R&D, ISD S.A.), as a lecturer at the Technological Educational Institute of Crete (course: Distributed Systems), and as a research assistant at the Institute of Computer Science of FORTH (networks group). He has long-term experience in UNIX/Linux systems administration and software development in a variety of application fields (systems software, web development, databases, scientific software, etc.). His interests include the Mathematics of Computer Science, Machine Learning, and Software Development. - 4 Trainers
